T4.3 Photonics Tools

Circuit design of photonic devices packaged together with analog RF-electronic circuits at bandwidths beyond 100 GHz is exceptionally challenging and requires novel EDA/PDA and simulation tools. Those tools will open that kind of design to an increasing number of European companies and thus contribute to reinforce Europe position. Those tools will also help European SMEs to reach a reasonable level of productivity mandatory to make Silicon Photonics an industrial reality for them.

Furthermore, the level of detail and the accuracy of photonic and EO-simulations must be improved significantly to enable high volume, high yield fabrication. The outcomes of the 4 subtasks in T4.3 will provide a full electro-optical co-design optimization of cointegrated photonic and electronic devices (T4.3.1), co-simulation of integrated and free-space optical coupling solutions (T4.3.2), electrical-photonic-design automation tools for EOE-modelling of PDK components to be used in schematics and layouts (T4.3.3), and testing setups and support for the fabricated test structures and devices.
